About Fred the Orange Coal Car

Fred is retired, but you can still find him at ebay and in the Sodor Gift pack with Henrietta. Fred is orange with black coal sticking out of the top of him. His facial expression makes it quite clear that he is up to something.

Fred is probably valuable as a unique item - something that not every thomas fan has.

In my experience, the metal sets are excellent for portable play because they fold up and have storage areas for track and trains. They are the smallest trains you can get but they are rather heavy for their size, being metal. On a recent trip room I took two engines and two freight cars in my fanny pack and pulled them out for Joe play with both on the plane and while we were waiting to board the plane - they kept him happily occupied.
